# Terms of Service > The terms that govern access to Cool Computers and the computers, public addresses, email addresses, and tools it provides. ## Agreement Last updated: August 19, 2026 These Terms of Service govern access to and use of Cool Computers, including the website, the `cool` command-line tool, the API, and every computer created through the service. By creating an account, creating a computer, or using any part of the service, you agree to these terms on behalf of yourself and, if applicable, the organisation you represent. If a separate signed agreement applies to your use of Cool Computers, that document controls where it conflicts with these terms. ## Accounts - You need an account to create computers. Keep your credentials and CLI sessions secure and tell us promptly about unauthorised access. - You are responsible for everything done with your account and with the computers it owns, including what the computers serve at `name.cool.computer` and send from `name@mail.cool.computer`. - If you create an account for an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind it to these terms. ## Your computers and your content - Everything you put on a computer is yours: code, files, packages, databases, configuration, services, and the things they produce. You grant Cool Computers only the rights needed to store, run, back up, recover, and serve it as part of operating the service. - A computer keeps its disk, name, `name.cool.computer` address, and `name@mail.cool.computer` inbox while it exists. Inactivity is not deletion. - Deleting a computer removes it from your account and from the public gallery. Deleted data may persist briefly in backups and logs before it is purged. - Making a computer public lists it in the gallery and lets anyone reach its `name.cool.computer` address. You are responsible for what a public computer exposes. ## Acceptable use - Do not use a computer for unlawful, harmful, deceptive, infringing, abusive, or discriminatory activity, or to host content that violates law or third-party rights. - Do not attack, probe, or interfere with other computers, other customers, the service, or third parties; do not send spam or unsolicited mail from `name@mail.cool.computer`. - Do not run cryptocurrency mining, denial-of-service tooling, or other workloads designed to exhaust shared resources, and do not try to bypass quotas, network controls, or security boundaries. - Agents you run on a computer act on your behalf; you are responsible for what they do. - Do not resell the service or reverse engineer it except where the law expressly allows. ## Public addresses, email, and the gallery - Each computer receives a stable `name.cool.computer` address and a `name@mail.cool.computer` email address. Names are assigned by the service and may be reclaimed after a computer is deleted. - Requests to `name.cool.computer` may take time before they reach its configured service. You should expect and tolerate that behaviour for anything you host. - We may remove a computer from the public gallery, or restrict its public address or email, if it violates these terms or creates a security or legal risk. ## Commercial terms - Fees, plan limits, renewal terms, payment obligations, taxes, and cancellation rights are governed by the plan you select or a written agreement. - Unless the applicable agreement says otherwise, fees are non-refundable and access may be limited if payment is late. - Cool Computers may change features, limits, and pricing on notice, subject to any commitments in an applicable agreement. Beta, preview, or free features may be modified, suspended, or discontinued at any time. ## Intellectual property Cool Computers and its software, documentation, brand, and service design remain the property of Cool Computers and its licensors. Open-source components are licensed under their own terms. Feedback you give us may be used without obligation to you. ## Availability and disclaimers We aim to keep the service reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or fully secure operation. Computers may take time to become available or may be unavailable because of maintenance, incidents, capacity, third-party providers, or events beyond our control. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the service is provided as is and as available, without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, or uninterrupted use. ## Limitation of liability To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cool Computers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, punitive, or lost-profit damages, or for loss of data, goodwill, business, or revenue. Our total liability for claims relating to the service will not exceed the amounts you paid for the service in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or one hundred US dollars if no fees were paid. ## Indemnity You will defend and indemnify Cool Computers against claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, and expenses arising from your content, your computers, what they serve or send, your agents, your violation of these terms, or your violation of law or third-party rights, except to the extent caused by our breach of these terms. ## Termination You may delete your computers and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for breach, non-payment, security risk, legal requirement, or discontinued service. After termination, your data is deleted or retained according to the Privacy Policy, product settings, legal requirements, and any applicable agreement. ## Changes, law, and contact We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the product or your account email. Continued use after an update means the updated terms apply from their effective date. Governing law, venue, dispute process, and notices are controlled by any written agreement. If none applies, those issues will be handled under the laws and courts where Cool Computers is organised, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
