# Privacy Policy > How Cool Computers collects, uses, protects, and deletes personal information to provide persistent computers, public addresses, and email addresses. ## Overview Last updated: August 19, 2026 Cool Computers provides persistent Linux computers with stable `name.cool.computer` and `name@mail.cool.computer` addresses for people and the agents they run. This policy explains how we handle personal information when you create an account, use the website, the `cool` CLI, or the API, create and use computers, or contact us. You control what you put on your computers. If you use Cool Computers through an organisation, that organisation decides what is stored and how it is used. ## Information we collect - Account details: name, email address, authentication identifiers from our sign-in provider, and login and session activity, including CLI sessions. - Computer content: everything you store on a computer's disk, the services you run, the traffic they serve at `name.cool.computer`, and mail sent or received through `name@mail.cool.computer`. - Computer metadata: names, public addresses, status, network settings, creation and access events, and whether a computer is public. - Usage and device information: pages viewed, product actions, browser and client type, IP address, approximate location, error logs, and security events. - Commercial and support information: plan details, billing status, support requests, feedback, and communications. ## How we use information - Provide, operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the service, including creating and making computers available and delivering traffic and mail to them. - Authenticate you, administer accounts, enforce permissions and network controls, and prevent fraud, abuse, or unauthorised access. - List computers you have made public in the gallery, including their names and `name.cool.computer` addresses. - Respond to support requests, send service messages, and manage the relationship with you. - Analyse product performance and usage so we can improve reliability, usability, and security. - Comply with legal, tax, accounting, security, and contractual obligations. ## What we do not do with your computers We do not read the contents of your computers except as needed to operate the service, to respond to a support request you make, to investigate abuse or a security incident, or as required by law. We do not use the contents of your computers to train machine-learning models. ## Legal bases Where privacy laws require a legal basis, we rely on the basis that fits the activity: performing our contract with you, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the service, compliance with legal obligations, or consent where the law requires it. ## Sharing and service providers We do not sell personal information. We share it only as needed to provide and protect the service, comply with law, or complete a business transaction: - Service providers that host infrastructure and computers, provide authentication, networking, mail delivery, analytics, support, payments, security, and error monitoring. - Anyone who visits `name.cool.computer` or emails `name@mail.cool.computer` receives whatever that computer serves or sends; that is your content, under your control. - Professional advisers, regulators, law enforcement, or other parties when required to comply with law or to protect rights and safety. - A successor or buyer in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganisation, or sale of assets. ## Security and retention We use administrative, technical, and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information, including access controls, authentication, network controls, logging, and monitoring. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so use strong credentials, keep your CLI sessions private, and limit what you expose on public computers. A computer's disk, name, `name.cool.computer` address, and `name@mail.cool.computer` inbox persist while the computer exists, including while it is inactive. When you delete a computer it is removed from your account and the gallery, and its data is purged from active storage; copies may remain briefly in backups and logs. We retain account and billing records for as long as needed to operate the service, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal obligations. ## International transfers Cool Computers and its service providers may process information in countries other than where you are located. When required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as contractual protections or other legally recognised mechanisms. ## Your privacy rights Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection, withdrawal of consent, or an appeal of a privacy-rights decision. We will not discriminate against you for exercising them. You can delete your own computers and data from your account at any time. Other requests may require identity verification before we can act. The service does not yet have a published intake path for sensitive requests. ## Cookies and analytics We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, secure the service, remember preferences, and measure product usage. Browser settings may let you block or delete cookies, but signing in and some features may stop working. ## Children, changes, and contact Cool Computers is not directed to children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the product or your account email.
