# Cool Computers in Codex

> Install the Cool Computers plugin in Codex for the MCP server and the cool-computers skill, or add the MCP server on its own.

## Install the plugin

The [Cool Computers plugin](https://github.com/The-Money-Company-Limited/cool-computers) adds the remote MCP server `https://api.cool.computer/mcp` and the `cool-computers` skill, which teaches Codex when to publish a page, how to answer comments and drawings, and when a site needs a VM:

```sh
codex plugin marketplace add The-Money-Company-Limited/cool-computers
codex plugin add cool-computers@cool-computers
```

Codex asks you to sign in to Cool Computers the first time it uses the server.

## MCP server only

To add the server without the skill:

```sh
codex mcp add cool --url https://api.cool.computer/mcp
codex mcp login cool
```

`codex mcp login` opens the browser to sign in. Then add `required = true` to the server's table in `~/.codex/config.toml`:

```toml
[mcp_servers.cool]
url = "https://api.cool.computer/mcp"
required = true
```

With `required = true`, Codex waits for Cool Computers' tools before it starts a task, instead of sometimes starting without them.

To use an API key instead of signing in, keep the key in `COOL_API_KEY` and name that variable in the same table; Codex sends it as `Authorization: Bearer`:

```toml
[mcp_servers.cool]
url = "https://api.cool.computer/mcp"
bearer_token_env_var = "COOL_API_KEY"
required = true
```

Create a key in Settings at [www.cool.computer/account](https://www.cool.computer/account), or over HTTP as the [credential reference](/authentication.md) shows. The key is shown once.

## Check it works

Ask Codex:

```text
List my Cool Computers sites and computers. Don't change anything.
```

It calls `cool_list_computers` and answers with your list.

## Without an account

Sign-up is invite-only for now. Without an account, Codex can still publish with the [cool CLI](/install) and give you a link to claim the site; [/agents.md](/agents.md) is the step-by-step runbook it follows.
